Our Community's Six Principles

Our Six Principles of nature connection, nature conservation, personal development, self-sufficiency, empowerment and consciousness and awareness are the foundation for our community. These Six Principles are timeless concepts that can be studied, practised and implemented by everyone who wants to join our community with our hands on opportunities and online opportunities.

1.
Nature Connection

Humans have lived in close contact with the natural world for millions of years. It was only very recently that this relationship between humans and nature changed. Today most people are not actively engaging with nature. However, this connection with nature remains in our bodies’ architecture and our history of living alongside nature remains visible in our environment. It is widely accepted that humans benefit from nature in ways that go beyond our necessary resources such as food and water. Contact with nature, no matter the intensity, increases our overall well-being. Although most people today lack a nature connection, in our community we live in nature 100% of the time. This means we experience a deep nature connection and many health benefits such as by eating natural wild food free of pesticides and steroids. We feel at home in the wilderness with all the necessary skills to thrive here.

2.
Nature Conservation

It is our responsibility to take care of the environment we benefit from. That’s why conservation and stewardship is a priority. Although many people want to contribute to conservation, they either feel they can’t make a real difference, or feel too overwhelmed by the challenge to begin. In our community we work from a holistic concept, conserving the ecosystem as a whole – from wildlife to wildflowers, rivers to mountains – to bring the greatest benefits to nature. Reciprocity means for everything we receive from nature, it is our responsibility to take care of it in return. Our tool for measuring the success of our conservation is to achieve the maximum wildlife population numbers for the habitat‘s potential carrying capacity, this being the indicator for sustainable land management, with a special focus on the Chilcotin Ark. Everything we do contributes to conservation.

3.
Personal Development

In our community we live life consciously because we have clarified our interests, goals and purpose for everything we do. An interest is something that creates feelings of excitement, curiosity or focus that you want to learn more about or participate in fully. Setting measurable goals that inspire and motivate you to complete them will make every opportunity a more engaging process. Your purpose is the bigger picture reason for acting as you do.

Many people struggle to live their life with purpose, mostly because they’ve never thought about what their purpose actually is. Once you have identified your purpose, you will find your interests and goals may already align to it. But that doesn’t mean your purpose is only a “big picture” topic. It is the smaller things you do every day that contribute to your purpose. In our community we are constantly refining our interests, goals and purpose to live an intentional and meaningful life.

4.
Self-Sufficiency

In today’s society, especially in the city, people are highly dependent on others, whether that is their friends and family or the government and corporations that supply them with food, water, power and entertainment. The ranch community is highly self-sufficient and this comes from working through each level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs from physiological needs to transcendence.

We are self-sufficient on all levels and in all aspects of life from how we get our food and water, to being the master of our own destiny. This self-sufficiency creates a feeling of appreciation for the natural environment we benefit from as well as strong feelings of empowerment because we know we can do it. This allows us to contribute to something bigger than ourselves.

5.
Empowerment

Many people lack the feeling of empowerment and don’t know how to carry out simple tasks that create feelings of empowerment. Our community is run by capable, self-reliant, independent women and men who are secure enough to work with them. It is a culture of equals who take responsibility, initiative, and ownership and have commitment and a positive attitude. Everyone is empowered because they live in an egalitarian community where power comes from within. Empowerment comes from having the skills and the mindset to get the job done. Everybody has the opportunity to take on the role of leader and the responsibility to mentor others and be mentored. We are a community that operates with collaboration, interdependence and synergy. Our community has many similarities to matriarchal societies.

6.
Conscious and Aware

Becoming more conscious and aware is an essential trait for everyone’s personal development. At the lowest levels of consciousness, people are either a victim or an abuser where they blame others and feel powerless for their circumstances or use others to get what they want. Most people live here. As people become more conscious and aware they realize their own responsibility for making changes in their life because they understand that change comes from within. They can become accepting, understanding, hopeful, courageous and empowered. The next increase in consciousness comes when people operate from a desire to contribute to others. Their actions align with their values and principles.

In our community we live in the higher levels of consciousness by taking responsibility for ourselves, our actions and what happens to us and therefore can contribute to something bigger than ourselves. We are highly aware of what is happening around us, both in the natural environment and with our interactions with other people and animals, as well as what is happening with in us. The consciousness chart is a useful tool to assess how conscious and aware we are. Striving to be conscious and aware on a daily basis is a worthy life time goal.
