Physical Community

Our community is located in the wilderness of the Chilcotin Ark of British Columbia, Canada, a 2.5 million hectare area of international importance.  

The Chilcotin Ark ....
- is a crucial refuge for plant and animal species in times of climate change
- uniquely bio-diverse

And home to...
- 11 of the 29 big game species
- Blue Listed mountain goat
- Grizzly bears
- California Bighorn sheep
- Federally and provincially protected woodland caribou
- Abundant populations of the endangered white - bark pine

Quick Facts

  • We operate a 5000 square km guide territory in the southeast corner of the Chilcotin Ark 
  • We educate guests, students and interns about our Three Pillars
  • Twenty-five wilderness camps which we use as satellite research centres
  • Our community is based on our 30 acre ranch property, our base camp research centre
  • Our ranch property consists of the historic lodge, modern log cabins and prospector tents
  • We cook shared meals and everyone makes their contribution to the community


    Self-sustainability

    We facilitate a self-sustainable lifestyle. Currently we have:

    • A garden to grow some of our own food
    • Water gravity-fed from a nearby creek and wood fires to reduce our dependence on the system
    • We harvest as much of our food as possible from the local area, reducing the impact on the environment through lowering food miles and the use of pesticides, hormones and steroids in our food
    • We are working to increase our self-sufficiency into the future.
